   @Vault Boy – your comment is absolutely hilarious! and i’m gonna tell you why — first of all, i am 56yo so you came pretty close (i know i know, in your world all the old people are 25) … i’m stuck in nevada for the summer because bf broke/smashed his ankle and i’ve been his nurse, so i do this to stay quiet and let him sleep when he’s on pain medication … and finally, i am openly out on GS and by that i mean almost everybody here knows im m2f transwoman — u must be psychic , little one!    I don’t know about "rubbing" on a painting….but this Q struck a personal cord for me. A few months after my marriage, I found that my husband was dressed in a woman’s dress. He was always wanting me to go shopping…I guess to get me out of the house. I was shocked, but got him to go to a counselor with me. As it turned out, when he was 7 yrs old, his mother left him with his father and he didn’t see her until he was an adult. Aa a young child, he collected what clothing his mother had left, and in his grief, began holding, and eventually, wearing what clothing of hers, that he could. He had a great deal of anger that came out on me, but never toward his mother. I imagine that there are many different reason for such behavior–ambivalence about their own sex, being one.

   The article you link says nothing about a cross-dresser. Carmen Tish, the woman in the story, is just a woman.

   Anyway, to answer your question there are many reasons why a man will cross-dress:
   1. To get attention.
   2. To make us laugh, and shock our sensibilities.
   3. Because he truly believes he is really a woman trapped in a man’s body.
   4. He is feminine and is getting in touch with his feminine side.
   5. He is a normal heterosexual with a fetish for women’s clothing.

   The vast majority of compulsive cross-dressers are normal, healthy, heterosexual men with one little kink hard-wired in their brain. They have a fetish. When these guys feminize themselves their brain responds just as if he was in contact with a female. His brain releases dopamine and other neurotransmitters which produce sensations of well-being, pleasure, sexual gratification and self-identity. It affects the reward centers of his brain and it mimics the addiction response. So they cross-dress just because it makes them happy. And, most of these men get married, have families, and just keep their cross-dressing under control.
