First question: no.
Second question: It wasn’t precisely "getting me to cross dress." It was "how badly do I want to get a B in Language Arts this quarter?"
When I was in 8th grade, my language-arts teacher got the idea for a one-day "author’s convention." Basically, we would spend the second quarter studying an author, and one day toward the end of the quarter, we would basically have to come to school and be that author.
I, through seriously bad luck of the draw, ended up assigned a former Newberry Award winner by the name of Emily Cheney Neville. You will notice that (a) Emily is a female name and (b) John is not.
I more or less blew off a lot of the assignment deadlines, thinking it was a huge joke, but then I missed one assignment where we had to write, in our "author" persona, as if our language-arts teacher had invited them to the author’s convention and they were accepting the invitation. I didn’t turn it in. She called my mother.
Now, as it was, my mother flipped out that I was blowing off this assignment. When she found out that I couldn’t be bothered to write a letter (I have written creative-fiction stories since I was 6) she really flipped out. And I kind of got a clue as to how much trouble I would be in if I didn’t pass this assignment, because this assignment would be the difference between a B and a D for the semester.
So, I went all out. Wore a woman’s wig. White blouse. Yes, I stuffed socks in the chest. Black skirt. Pantyhose. Even wore a pair of flats. My mother was kind enough to not make me take the bus (and let me bring a change of clothes to wear home) but I walked in, and when our (male) vice principal saw me, he literally laughed so hard he spit out his coffee. And my history teacher sexually harrassed "Emily" for most of the day.
But I got an A+ on the project – mostly for being willing to go to such lengths to get it.
